The Sizzler is a 10k offroad running challenge, with a difference!
This is a race you could win! A run in beautiful Cotswold countryside on the edge of King’s Stanley, through Middleyard and elevates you to the top of Selsley Common with spectacular views.
Back in 2018 in a new format
So in addition to the Sizzler 10k run, there will be a Toddlers run (2-5 yrs), the little Sizzler for young runners (6-14 yrs)
The handicap nature of the Sizzler is to give everyone an equal chance of winning this race, by basing this on your ability, age and recent running performance. Yes, seriously, anyone could win the race”, says Race Director, Simon Barnes.
From the King’s Stanley Village Hall, runners will complete a 3/4 lap of the village green, before disappearing down some woodland steps into the trees, to join the Cotswold Way.
Following the fields across towards Middleyard, the course bears north-east to Redhill Farm and then up to Selsley West. A very steep ascent up on to the very top of Selsley is rewarded with great views of the 5 Valleys and across to the Forest of Dean on the other side of the river Severn at approximately 2.5km point in the run.
From here the course descends along the Cotswold Way into Pen Woods to the junction with with the old Cotswold Way route to King’s Stanley. From here there’s is a surprise left turn back up to the top of the Pen Woods, around the outskirts of the Scouts Centre to form a loop back down to the 3 way junction of the Cotswold Way. This time turning left down back towards King’s Stanley, crossing over the road at Middleyard and re-joining the outward part of the course back to the Village Green and completing the 3/4 lap to the finish.
